Red Cross Swim Basics 1

No previous swimming experience required.

Red Cross Swim Basics provides an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in swimming and water safety in a safe and enjoyable environment. This level is an introduction to swimming designed to develop or increase swimmers’ comfort in the water through basic flotation, movement, and breathing skills with a focus on front swim.

Swimmers learn front and back float, front and back glide with kick, front swim for 10 metres, shallow water entries and exits, and deep-water activities (assisted). Basic water safety knowledge and skills are also introduced.

Red Cross Swim Basics 2

Some swimming experience required. Participants must be able to comfortably perform front swim for 10 metres continuously.

In this level the focus is on developing front crawl and back crawl, establishing comfort and building confidence in deep water, and increasing the swimming distance.

Swimmers learn back swim with shoulder roll, front and back crawl (15m), sitting dive, kneeling dive, stride dive and front dive, treading water, and swim a minimum of 25 metres.

Red Cross Swim Strokes 1

Participants must be able to swim both front crawl and back crawl at least 25 metres continuously and must be comfortable in deep water.

This program is aimed at swimmers who have mastered the basics of learning to swim and are ready to focus on developing and improving their strokes and increasing the distance they can swim. Swimmers are introduced to breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke and continue to work on developing front crawl and back crawl. Participants must be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres of front crawl with side breathing.

Red Cross Swim Strokes 2

Participants must be able to perform front crawl and back crawl and breaststroke for 50m and be able to swim 100 metres continuously.

This program is aimed at swimmers who have mastered the basics of learning to swim and have a working knowledge of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke. Swimmers will focus on stroke improvement drills and technical workouts, and basic water safety. Participants must be comfortable in deep water and a level of fitness necessary to swim continuously.

Zodiac Triathlon Swim Academy: Swim Training for Triathletes

Participants must be able to swim front crawl for at least 500 metres continuously.

 This course is designed for the advanced swimmer looking to improve swimming technique, aquatic fitness and overall endurance in the water. Workouts include interval training, technique sets, endurance sets, strength sets, and speed sets. Stroke improvement will help athletes achieve their personal athletic goals and encourage individual growth in performance in an enjoyable and non-competitive environment. The facility features a beautiful 25 metre pool with clean showers and changing areas.


 Zodiac Triathlon Swim Academy Weekend Clinics

 Prerequisite: Adults, all Triathlete levels accepted.

 This clinic is designed for Triathletes who are looking for intense training to improve the swim portion of their sport. The hour will include stroke work in a group with a low coach to athlete ratio, and tips for setting up a technical workout routine to optimize future training sessions. The facility features a beautiful 25 metre pool with clean showers and changing areas.


 Intro to Snorkelling for Adults

 Prerequisite: Adults, the ability to swim and submerge comfortably in deep water.

 This clinic is designed to give adults an introduction to the basics of snorkeling. It is ideal for anyone planning a winter getaway who would like to snorkel with the kids while on vacation. Basics covered include how to put on and use a mask and snorkel, how to safely enter and exit the water and care and cleaning of materials. It is recommended that participants supply their own mask and snorkel when possible. Sanitized masks and Snorkels will be provided if necessary.
